Remediation, closure and recultivation of Slag Landfil from the Smelter in ‘’Zajaca’’

WORKS DESCRIPTION

Remediation and closure of tailings and slag landfill included the execution of the following works:

• removal of tailings and slag from the western part of the landfill to the eastern part of the landfill;
• arrangement and closure of the eastern part of the landfill;
• arrangement and closure of the western part of the landfill;
• removal of leachate water;
• protection of the landfill from atmospheric precipitation;
• reclamation of closed landfill.

The landfill was closed as follows:

• Earth filling of bottom;
• Installation of waterproof HDPE foil:
  • Geotextile (1200 gr / m2) below HDPE foil;
  • HDPE foil;
  • Geotextile (400 gr / m2) above HDPE foil;
• placement a layer of gravel;
• Reclamation:
  • spreading a layer of earth;
  • spreading a layer of humus.

Quantities:

• Excavation (of various materials): 117,763 m3.

• Backfill (various materials): 109,896 m3.

• Placement of clay material: 19.281 m3.

• Placement of crushed stone in cement mortar: 3.901 m3.

• Placement of HDPE foil: 44.448 m2.

• Placement of geotextile 1200 (gr / m2): 42,427 m2.

• Placement of geotextile 400 (gr / m2): 42,427 m2.

• Re-soiling and grassing of surfaces: 31,662 m2.
